ive had a few friends tell me recently that they wish they had my life, or that i inspire them to do more. thats fantastic! my response is usually something along the lines of… ‘firstly, THANKS! and then, why cant you?’ and, inevitably i get the common rebuttal of: money and/or responsibilities, etc. (ok. children = understandable). so i got to thinking about all of the things i did in 2009, the places that i went, the things i saw, etc. i came up with the list below, which, i have to admit – now that its in print, IS quite cool…
travel: vegas–2x, denver, seattle, vancouver, san diego–2x, baja, zion nat'l park, coral pink sand dunes state park, best friends animal sanctuary, bryce nat'l park, grand canyon nat'l park, orange county, los angeles, hoover dam, lake mead, boulder mt ranch, grand staircase - escalante nat’l monument, capitol reef nat'l park, crazy horse memorial, mount rushmore, badlands nat'l park, chicago, niagara falls, vermont, provincetown, marthas vineyard–2x, new york city–3x, west virginia, washington dc, croatia, st inigoes, md–2x, salt lake city / ogden, ut, assateague nat'l park.
activities: snowboarding: powder mt, snowbasin, crested butte, snowbird, stevens pass; ice skating in rockefeller plaza, skydiving, horseback riding, alpaca farming, deep sea fishing.
music: bassnectar - 2x, barrington levy, royksopp, the xx, zero 7.
now heres the inspiration bit. my cpa just sent me my completed 2009 taxes. when i opened up the envelope and checked my income – my mouth dropped open. ive been through a lot in the past year, but one thing i havent been through a lot of… is money. heres what it said:
$15,288.
thats right. i eeked all of that adventure out on just $15,000!
inspired yet?

HOW? How do you Pay Rent? Car Payment? How, How, How???? What do you do? If you are a Waitress you make alot more than that and that is what you claim. I must know more. Please answer. I think this article is misleading.
ReplyDeleteha! and i suppose you're one of those people who dismissed 'the secret' after the million dollars you wished for didnt show up.
ReplyDeleteaccept mediocrity, and its yours to keep...
be creative.
I'm not that at all! Just explain how you pay rent in DC, that should be at least 12,000.00 or so... leaving 3000.00 for Bills, Travel and going out. You have Money coming in from somewhere... Reveal, Please.... You're not telling the whole story. This post is totally misleading. Seriously.
ReplyDelete2009 i paid rent for only 3 months. i lived out of my car for most of it (i didnt come to dc til aug) i also was unemployed for 6 months. part of my travel in the beginning of the year was for work. i sold a couple of things for gas money, etc but the rest of it is about creativity and good friends and family. no other money coming in, no borrowing money... thats it. make it happen.
ReplyDeleteGood Friends.... and Family..... Cool and there's my answer. I've had No money at times in my life... and I get what you are talking about... I had a lot of fun during those years, and I agree, we should Live life to the fullest, have fun, experience it... But once you have a House Payment, Commitments, a Full time job, once these happen.. It gets more difficult to do all these wonderful things. I get 10 days a year vacation... and I have to work 40 hours a week, and a house payment..bills, etc., etc.... No Family Support...So 15000.00 certainly wouldn't cut it. I get what you are trying to say.... and I get that you are trying to "wake people up" to get the most out of this Life... but you should keep in mind that it's priorities,,,and lack of obligations, that is allowing you to be free wheeling. . . Muah!
ReplyDeleteyes. its priorities, we all have different ones. the 'rat race' is not an option i will ever choose. bills are also something i get involved with at a minimum. and good friends and family have nothing to do with anyone giving me any money - more that i would have stayed with them, or been on adventures with them. your money or your life...
