elijah…’natureboy’

bijou and i took a walk to the book store the other day. heading home, we decided to amble through the park by the obamas house.  on the way through i noticed a gentleman wearing just about nothing sitting on a bench.  he was barefoot with long white dreads and the only item in his possession… a walking stick.   see, there he is – just to the right:

we walked on by, but i couldnt stop thinking about what his story might be - sitting here in front of the white house, making a statement?  and so… we turned around and went back for a chat.
i introduced myself to him and shook his hand. he then said ‘ah yes, i could tell you were lovely right away, because the name courtney is derived from the ‘kings court’ and is to be deemed trustworthy.  i responded ‘trustworthy…yes, ive been told this before; i agree – sometimes to a fault.’  to which he added:
‘there are no faults in life, just lessons’.
he went on to tell me his name was ‘elijah, the natureboy’.  i was enamored with his dreads and he told me he had been growing them since he began wandering… 33 years ago!  and he’s definitely got a story. if you want to read more about him, he even has his own website (not to mention a facebook page… yeah, we’re friends now! :)

as we prepared to leave, i said ‘have a great day’, and he replied ‘you too’.  then quickly added ‘actually, i know we both will - so instead, i will just say to you to enjoy yours, and i will mine.’
so glad we went back for that chat.
