the nite house.

on our way home from dinner, Mercedes and I decided to cruise the sights on our bikes.

the warm evening air was intoxicating.

(or maybe that was just a residual from the wedding festivities)

we stopped by this place along the way.

looks quite peaceful and serene at nite, no?

the 2 misters weddingpallooza

it was one of those perfect DC weekends - warm autumn days filled with joy, love and laughter.

friends came from across the globe to join in the festivities.

a ‘creative island’ themed wedding, with a bike ride across the nation’s capital:

and, of course, a colorful cast of characters to share in the beauty of the occasion:

I have been to many weddings near and far – some in magical, exotic locations.

however, the love that christian and alejo share, and in turn, create for those that are part of their lives made this, BY FAR, the most beautiful wedding I have ever attended.

alejo and christian, thank you for making such a positive impact on those who surround you, and thank you for showing us all what living and loving life is REALLY about.

you couldn’t possibly be loved more.

national gallery of art

ive been super curious about the light installation at the national gallery of art.
so, i hopped on my bike and rode down to check it out.
the lights blink in different waves and patterns as you walk through the underground tunnel.
i enjoyed it, but kinda wished it was different colors too.
oooh, and maybe some daft punk playing as well?
nonetheless, cool:

before the tunnel, there’s an exterior fountain visible, just the other side of a glass wall:

which made for a pretty cool reflective scene with some black eyed susans:

oh, yeah!
and… they have ART at the national gallery of art.
who knew?
i liked this piece:
(dont you feel like mt fuji is somewhere in that bottom bit?)

however, this one was my fave.
that could totally be me,
reading stories to the animals in the middle of the forest, naked…
soooo ridiculous.
yet… so true.

theres always something more to see…

bijou and i chose meridian park this morning for our a.m. stroll.  you may have noticed from earlier posts that this is a popular spot for us; its super close and so lovely.  we took our normal cruise through the trees, past the jeanne d’arc statue, and down the stairs.
hey joan!

i adore simply sitting and looking up at the fountain in the center of the park.  normally we gander up at it from the bottom.  today we decided to sit along side and see what it had to offer.
a completely new view of things:

then, we noticed the little creature on the side of the stone rail, spewing water out its mouth.
never saw THAT before!

and this is the first time i’d noticed those flower pots built into the side of the stairs; flush with orange blossoms celebrating the spring sunshine:
(although that happy ‘doggy on a walk’ face is something im quite familiar with ;)

even though we’ve walked this park dozens of times before, we saw a few new things today.
i loved the gentle reminder to keep my eyes open to LIFE…
theres always something more to see.

on the way back home we rode by the ‘boy scout memorial’.
yes, thats a naked man behind the boy scout.
alejo and christian are reading the inscription to decipher what on earth is going on here.
im still baffled that someone thought this a good idea:

EU embassies’ open house

my cultural attaches and i headed out for another day of international education.  we hopped on our bikes to check out open house day at the embassies of the EU.  very cool.  some of the ‘bigger’ ones had MASSIVE lines, so we avoided those.  who the hell wants to visit the italian embassy anyway? (tee hee. thats for you ferruccio! ;)
our first stop on the tour… hungary:
DSC_0234
this is the coolest!  some hungarian guy invented transparent concrete.
imagine the possibilities… BRILLIANT!
DSC_0235
doesnt it make all kinds of sense to have those little moon shaped china side plates?
